“Under The Landscape, Knowing from below”
exhibition’s purpose was to present the results of
the experiential workshop organized by Boulouki
in the summer of 2021 in Thirasia, Cyclades.
The visitor was invited on a journey that begun almost 30,000 years ago.
He or she was welcomed to pass through caves and vineyards,
hear songs of the vintage, try “aspa” (theran earth) with bare hands,
learn what hohlidi is, be introduced to which ports of the world
was theran earth used and whether the Romans used concrete.
In the exhibition, local vs global are in a constant debate,
tradition vs science and innovation and practicality against guesswork.
Through eight thematic units, the visitor has the opportunity to learn
how Santorini and Thirassia took their current form,
how Man self-adapted to the landscape and how he tamed
the landscape to his needs, how it was when the now abandoned Agrilia
was inhabited, a settlement that hides within itself all the wisdom
that the struggle for survival brings and last but not least
how you build with Theran land, in the most experiential way.
On the occasion of the Theran land, we learn “from below”
how we can use our past to shape our future.
The exhibition was hosted at the Nomikos Industrial Museum of Tomato
in Vlychada, Santorini, June – October 2022.
