“The Great Challenge: 90 Years of the Marathon Dam”
was a temporary exhibition
organized by the newly established
Historical Archive of EYDAP.
In it, rare exhibits from the study and construction
of this emblematic technical work of the 1920s
were introduced to the public for the very first time.
The exhibition attempts to address the challenge of the project
through different perspectives:
the complexity of manufacturing
such a vast technical project as such,
the challenge of collaboration
between Greek and American engineers,
the Greek State and a big private company,
the challenge of conservation and management
a rich archive, using up-to-date tools and techniques.
Drawings, photographs, tools, measuring instruments,
documents and two short films,
an archival one and a 3D animation
as well as an immersive experience,
based on the element of water
put together an exhibitional environment,
which invites visitors to share a journey of discovery
into the largely unknown story
of the Marathon Dam and Lake.
Layers in drawing technical sketches,
a color coding derived from the original designs,
the creative dialogue between
the construction site and the museum aesthetics
constitute the museographical canvas.
