Responding to the hospital’s need
to rearrange its entrance planning,
we designed a new, small building complex
and a new circulation system,
along with the nearby surroundings.
Our main idea was to create two small cement towers,
that would host all the necessary functions, such as an office,
a control room, a place for guards to rest
and a small flower shop,
and a metal and glass shelter that would both unify the towers
and act as a new landmark for the hospital,
in the heart of northern suburbs of Athens.
Forms and shapes aim at simplicity and discretion,
so that the historical building
of one of the oldest hospitals of the greek capital
does not enter in an unnecessary visual antagonism.
Textures were chosen upon the decision
to let the construction method of each element
be obvious to the viewer.
Yet, some artistic interventions,
such as the embedment of colourful ceramic tiles
in certain spots give the final outcome a handmade effect.
