Athanasios Diakos
has been a prominent war figure
during the 1821 Greek Revolution.
The Museum’s permanent collection,
examines his trace through
a contemporary point of view.
The spectator is welcomed to follow his life
as it unfolds in a time and space framework,
taking into consideration
the socio-economic as well as cultural context
of the era.
The museum hosts its permanent exhibition
in a small scale new building,
where local legend says lied his family house.
This war hero became the very reason for the exhibition
to explore the history of this mountain community
through the difficult years of the Revolution and before.
Our main idea was to create a “history tube”,
using theatrically set up, coverall showcases.
These snapshots catch the eye of the visitor
and help the few collection items
(either found or specifically created for the exhibition)
be adequately demonstrated in a modern way.
The permanent exhibition is hosted on the ground floor,
whereas in the first floor
a room for events and temporary exhibitions
is conveniently situated.
