The reorganization of the significant permanent collection
of the Municipal Art Gallery of Rhodes,
which is an important part
of the Museum of Modern Greek Art of the Municipality
of Rhodes,
named after its founder “Andreas Ioannou” Gallery,
consists of functional reorganization of available spaces
within the historic building of the Gallery,
situated in the Medieval City of Rhodes,
as well as redesigning the permanent exhibition.
The museological and museographic study
divides the works into three large time units,
starting at the beginning of the 20th century
to the first post-war decade,
organizes the layout of the projects in separate entities,
defining thematic sets
which approach their themes
from the outside to the inner self,
avoiding to dictate a certain narrative to the visitor,
but rather act as a pattern, as a plan so to speak
reviewing the evolution of modern Greek art.
The report is complemented
by two further autonomous sections.
The first one is a diligent experiment,
focusing on two unique cases of artists
and the second one presents an engraving panorama,
on the same plan followed by the other three sections.
Interactive stations are formed in the rooms,
independently of the artworks,
at times analogue and oftens digital,
inviting the visitor to discover more information
regarding the context of the artworks.
