NATIONAL GEOLOGICAL MUSEUM GR

@ Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration

The former Museum of Minerals and Rocks
of the Institute of Geology and Mineral Exploration (E.A.G.M.E.)
in Acharnes, Αttica, was renamed to
National Geological Museum of Greece
and will be upgraded by re-exhibiting its collections
and enriching its space.

The central idea behind the proposed exhibition design
attempts to point out that minerals and rocks are natural materials,
which with proper treatment and processing
attribute to almost all the artificial materials that surround us.

The new permanent exhibition will unfold in two areas:
the introduction, with interactive and explanatory character
of the major concepts of geology and mineralogy
and the main hall, where the collections are on display
based on geographical origin.
Regarding the second area, the key exhibit is a prismatic central bank,
where the most valuable items of the collection are presented.
A dark room for showcasing fluorescent samples
will seek to introduce an innovative presentation
in respect to the Greek standards.

Intimacy, high aesthetics, originality of a museum environment,
balance between digital and hands-on activities,
highlighting exhibits through texture and light:
these are the main synthetic axes of the exhibition design proposal.

Implementation of the project is set to begin shortly.
