The exhibition was organized by the Ministry of Culture
in collaboration with the Friends of Music Society and the Athens Concert Hall
on the occasion of the 95th birthday of Mikis Theodorakis,
as the first public presentation of his archive,
which he himself had granted to the Music Library of Greece “Lillian Voudouri” since 1997.
The exhibition was designed as a prism,
through which “Theodorakis” as a light beam passes
and which is broken down into separate shades that
combined together, they constitute this “natural phenomenon”
that Theodorakis is all about.
The exhibition’s title, My Galaxy, is inspired by a term widely used
for his body of work by the composer himself
and was the basis for the art installation which opens the exhibition.
The narration, using only Theodorakis quotes,
is structured in 16 theme units, covering his musical work,
his political action as well as his private life,
while a timeline of his life and work, constantly present,
navigates the visitor to contextualize exhibits and stories narrated.
Maps and mirrors present two distinct motifs providing a canvas
on which the exhibition gradually unfolds in a monochromatic environment.
Due to Covid-19 the exhibition was finally inaugurated shortly before
his 96th birthday, while being extended after the death of the composer,
on Sept 2nd 2021.
